The home owner engaged Studio Dinding for a total renovation of a typical developer built two storey house in Pontianak. The structural modification and programming on the plan were set to respect the existing condition, generating open space flow on the ground floor plan and major view openings on the first floor plan, where most of bedrooms are located. As privacy and light control, a second skin covers the entire facades, which contrasts with the bare concrete structure.
The design team then removed part of the slab to create double height living area, allowing a more breathable, brighter and spacious feel of the common areas. While at the same time, it creates an interconnection feeling and visual between ground and first floor. Double height glass walls, full-height precast concrete wall and natural light that penetrate into the space create a playful dialogue between art, nature and architecture.
